Christmas in Asheville, North Carolina is pretty magical! It’s beautiful here and the whole city is festive, from the decorations downtown to the quaint Biltmore Village. Don’t take our word for it though, Asheville was listed as the top 10 best Christmas towns by Country Living and Huffington Post to name a few! Here are some of the things you and your family should enjoy over the holiday season in Asheville!
These are a few of our favorite things:
- Dickens in the Village Festival
- The Biltmore House at Christmastime
- Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland at the WNC Ag Center
- Winter Lights at the NC Arboretum
- Gingerbread House Competition at the Omni Grove Park Inn
The first Friday and Saturday in December, Biltmore Village transforms into an old-fashioned Dickens Christmas experience! The festival begins with the tree lighting on Friday and there are ongoing festivities and shopping, of course. There will be shop-owners dressed up in Victorian-era clothing, horse-drawn carriage rides, refreshments, and live music and caroling.
The Biltmore House
Visiting the Biltmore House at Christmastime should really be a family tradition! The entire Biltmore Estate is transformed over the holiday season with over 70 Christmas trees including one incredible giant one. See the Biltmore Estate in all of its Christmas glory! Indulge at the Winery and try the holiday edition wine. The Shops at Biltmore serve a great place to find gifts for the family.
Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland
Visiting Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland is another way to get in the holiday spirit. It’s a Christmas light show on the grounds of the WNC Agriculture Center. With 6 locations, Shadrack’s touts that it’s “the world’s largest drive-through, fully synchronized LED Christmas and music show of its kind!” The Asheville area location also includes Santa’s Village, which is new this year.
The Winter Lights is an outdoor holiday light exhibition hosted at the North Carolina Arboretum. This is a walk-through light exhibit that is throughout the gardens of the Arboretum. Enjoy the show along with holiday tunes, holiday-inspired beverages, and food from the café.
Another can’t-miss holiday activity is visiting the beautiful Omni Grove Park Inn to the see the display of winning gingerbread houses from this year’s National Gingerbread House Competition. Enjoy the experience of the Grove Park Inn and the unique gingerbread houses! The exhibit is free to attend, however there is a minimum parking charge of $10 for the Holiday Parking Program with the proceeds donated to a different charity each week.
Come and experience the joy of the season in Asheville!
